R&R product update Jan. 24, 2024

R&R - about us

This edition focuses on approving availabilities, looking ahead with R&R Insights, rebalancing legal and supervisory leave, and bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.

Approving availabilities

Before Christmas, the first minor changes have already been made for editing availabilities. The editing of availabilities was moved from the screen to a side panel. These graphical changes were necessary to enable availabilities on a weekly basis.

Starting January 30, it will be possible to start approving new requested availabilities! Through the approval feature, the supervisor becomes an essential part of the employee's availabilities. The moment a new availability is submitted by an employee, the supervisor can both approve and disapprove the availability. Only when the availability is approved is it implemented.

In R&R there will be an extra screen under the heading 'Availabilities' where all newly submitted availabilities will be listed. The start week of a new availability will always be after the last established roster, thus reducing disruption to the scheduling process.

After this, R&R focuses on increasing user convenience. Among other things, we will do this by better facilitating the dialogue between employer and employee. In addition, it will also be possible to pass on temporary availability so that rosters can be drawn up as efficiently as possible during holidays and vacations.

Job app changes availabilities

For the employee, the new way of working around availabilities also has an impact. In the R&R job app, starting January 30, it will be necessary to enter a start week for a new availability request. The start week of a new availability is always after the last established schedule in order to disrupt the scheduling process less.
The way an employee can create an availability in the R&R job app is similar to the way an employee can enter a school schedule:

Looking ahead with R&R Insights

In addition to providing insight into virtually all R&R control data, R&R Insights now also offers the ability to look ahead to determine where you will end up with your productive hours.
Until recently, you could look per day at how your realized productive hours measured up against the set standard, but over the entire week this could only be done after the end of the week.

With the new source Realization (Densified) you can now look throughout the week at how the productive hours end up if you do not deviate from the schedule. This source determines the productive hours based on the already approved realization and fills the missing days with hours from the schedule.

For now, this option exists only for the productive hours, in the near future we will also add the other productive columns to this.

Rebalancing of Statutory and Excess Statutory Leave

Many of our Dutch users have R&R accrue weekly leave based on hours worked. Here, a choice can be made to make a breakdown between statutory and non-statutory leave with the application of the corresponding expiration periods.

Because both statutory and non-statutory leave are accrued weekly, it can happen that leave is accrued with non-statutory hours because not all statutory leave hours have been accrued at that time. To ensure that employees do start the new year with the excess statutory leave to which they are entitled, R&R created a process to recalculate at the end of the year how the leave should have been written off.

This rebalancing of leave took place after the last payout of the previous year. The 2023 leave chart at the bottom explicitly shows that a rebalancing took place.

Bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements

In the past weeks our teams have been busy fixing bugs and making (small) quality-of-life improvements. These changes are all aimed at making the daily interaction with R&R even smoother. We have implemented the following changes, among others:

In my role as Product Owner, I ensure that customer requirements are translated into features in our software. The user experience and transpiration are paramount. Another spearhead is to better facilitate communication between employer and employee.

Before I started working as Product Owner, I first got to know R&R from my role as After Sales consultant. Besides getting to know our software as a user, the necessary customer questions and daily operational challenges passed by. This gave me a solid picture of where our software can be improved to support the user in the best possible way!
